An Interview with Samantha James

Join us as we sit down with Samantha James, who joins our team at Speed Medical as a Business Development Manager.

 

At Speed Medical, our successes are down to those who work hard every day supporting our customers and clients, whilst also delivering an unrivalled level of service, and because of this, we are thrilled to welcome Samantha James to our team as a Business Development Manager, as she  brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience within the industry.

 

Hi Samantha, could you start off by letting us know how long you’ve been with Speed Medical?

Of course, I’ve been with Speed Medical just under 5 months now and it’s been a great journey so far.

 

And what was your prior experience in the industry, what led you to join us?

Prior to working at Speed, I was managing an accident management company. However, due to the reforms, we weren’t meeting overheads. As a result, the business wrapped up and I was unfortunately made redundant.

 

Legal and Med-Legal is a mighty industry. What drew you to it?

I was really drawn to the Legal and Med-Legal industry because of the intersection between healthcare and law - two fields that significantly impact people’s lives. The opportunity to contribute to fair and just outcomes for individuals by bridging the gap between medical facts and law was also a major motivator for me -  I jumped at the chance to get involved.

 

Could you tell us a little bit about your particular specialisms?

Having worked in the PI industry for over 20 years, I’ve got a good foundation of skills across a broad spectrum of business roles, such as legal, medical, sales, PA and some financial sectors too. I’m very self-motivated and enjoy pushing and challenging myself, and I also pride myself on my excellent customer service skills and client interaction.

 

And what was it that made Speed Medical stand out to you as a great place to work?

Speed Medical really stood out to me because of its reputation for excellence and its commitment in the med-legal field, along with the company’s dedication in providing a high-quality service. I found that the core values at Speed are also very much aligned with my own, and I could see myself flourishing in the environment.

 

Excellent, thanks, Samantha. Could you tell us a little more about your role as Business Development Manager here at Speed. What are your responsibilities?

As Business Development Manager at Speed Medical, my responsibilities include identifying and pursuing new business opportunities and building and maintaining client relationships.

It’s my job to build strong relationships with these accounts and nurture these relationships, as not only may they come on board, but will hopefully stay on board which will ensure growth for the company.

 

What does a typical working day look like for you?

A typical day for me involves a lot of strategic planning! I start my day by reviewing emails and setting priorities, then I speak with my clients to discuss their needs and how we can support them. Throughout the day, I work on developing new business by exploring new opportunities for business growth and look for ways to excel in our service wherever possible.

 

How do you approach building and maintaining relationships with clients and stakeholders?

I personally feel there needs to be an equal balance when maintaining business relationships. For example, my accounts know that I’m available 24/7 for any queries or questions they may have, and I also drop them an email every 2/3 weeks to check-in and make sure they are happy with everything. But I also like to have a face-to-face chat with them every couple of months as well, as I feel this regular interaction keeps the relationship strong, the client loyal and let’s them know I’m still a real person who understands their needs.

 

What are the biggest challenges you’ve faced in your role so far, and how have you addressed them?

One of the biggest challenges is probably navigating the rapidly changing med-legal industry, so for me and team, staying informed about industry trends is a must.

 

What do you think it is that really sets us apart from others in the healthcare field?

Speed Medical is very much a forward-thinking company with a fantastic reputation of always putting their customers first. They’re honest and open and transparent about everything they do, and strive for excellence and without hesitation go that extra mile to deliver an outstanding service.

 

Having been with Speed Medical for a while now, has there been something that you’re particularly proud of?

Honestly? I’m so proud with the progress I’ve made so early on within the company and the accounts I have won!

I feel as though I’m learning something new every day and growing more confident in my role, and the support and guidance from the team have been invaluable. I’m really optimistic about achieving my goals as I continue to develop my skills – my future with Speed is exciting!

 

And finally, what would you say is the best part of your job, the bit that makes it all worthwhile?

I’d say it’s knowing that the team and I really do play a crucial role in helping individuals with their legal and medical situations – it’s incredibly fulfilling. I also enjoy the collaborative and supportive environment at Speed Medical, where every day brings new challenges and opportunities to learn and grow. But ultimately, it’s the combination of making a difference and working with a fantastic team that makes it worthwhile.
